Diamond Color
Whether you're on the hunt for an engagement ring, wedding band or special-occasion jewelry, it pays to familiarize yourself with diamond color—the second most important characteristic next to cut. Looking for the best diamond in your budget? Learn the meaning of the different color grades before you shop.

What is color?
Though most stones appear colorless to the naked eye, you'll find subtle tones of yellow or brown when viewed against a white background. Color refers to the diamond's "whiteness" or lack of color. The Gemological Institute of America grades diamond color on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (noticeable color); anything between D-Z are considered white. Colorless diamonds reflect the most light to ensure incredible brilliance and beauty. Stones with grades along the scale have their own uniqueness whether slightly tinted or not.

Let's Get Fancy
Any stone that's not white or colorless have Z+ grades and are known as "fancy" diamonds. They come in assorted shades like black, pink, blue and canary yellow and stones with good color are often in the same league as white diamonds.
