How to Measure Jeans

Want to find the perfect size jeans? Follow our step-by-step guide to get the right fit. You'll need to use a soft tape measure, like the ones tailors use. If you don't have one, then you can use twine and measuring tape.

How to measure yourself for jeans:

  • Make sure you're measuring next to skin, not over clothing!
  • Find how high on your waist or hips you like to wear your jeans and measure from there.
  • Waist: Keep tape measure comfortably loose as you measure around your waistband. If the measurement is in between two whole numbers, then round down to the lowest whole number since denim stretches over time.
  • Inseam: Measure the inner seam from the crotch to the bottom corner of the leg.

How to measure a pair of jeans:

  • Own a pair of jeans that fits you well? Use them as a reference for future purchases.
  • Button up the jeans and spread them out on a flat surface, removing any wrinkles.
  • Waist: From one side to the other, measure across the back waistband. Double the number to get actual waist size (ex. 17" measurement=34" waist).
  • Inseam: Measure the inner seam from the crotch to the bottom corner of the leg.
