PACKED TO PROTECT

We're always looking for new ways to minimize our environmental impact. That's why we've switched our packing materials from peanuts to air sheets, which provide the same reliable protection for your purchases in a more sustainable way.

If you receive peanuts in a package, it means we've reused them from a vendor rather than put them in a landfill.

WHY ARE AIR SHEETS MORE SUSTAINABLE?

They require 75% less packaging than peanuts.

Less packaging means smaller boxes, which reduces our cardboard waste.

Smaller packaging allows for more room on delivery trucks & fewer trips, which means less air pollution.

Air sheets can be recycled & are easier to dispose of than peanuts.

Our shopping bags are made from 100% recycled paper and can be reused and recycled again! We also offer reusable tote bags for just $1.50 that help reduce paper waste even further.

At Macy's, we're committed to eliminating wasteful behavior, reducing our use of scarce resources and finding the most eco-friendly solutions.

SUSTAINABILITY HIGHLIGHTS

  • In 2013, our annual solar production equaled 17,603,055 kilowatt hours of energy — enough to power 1,709 homes annually!
  • We produced less waste and recycled 79.8 tons of day-to-day work materials like cardboard, plastic, hangers, pallets, paper and more.
  • More than half of the marketing paper we use is FSC-certified, which means it's harvested in a sustainable manner.
  • More than 10 million Macy's customers helped us save paper with e-receipts!
  • When we hit the road last year, we eliminated 70 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions by shipping directly from our vendors, transporting via rail and making the most of our trucking routes by backhauling.
