Bar Stools

Long a staple in kitchens and family rooms, bar stools are becoming stylish multi-taskers. Compact and often lightweight, they can be moved anywhere extra seating is needed.  Bar stools can also double as plant stands, side tables or clothing catchers in the bathroom. So, how do you pick the perfect bar stool or counter stool for your home?  Read on!

What Height Should Bar Stools Be?
Counter height bar stools are usually 24" to 26" from the floor for average counters of 34" to 36". Bar stools that replace dining room chairs are typically around 18" high for a 30" table height. At 40" or more, pub-style tables and home bars need 30" stools.

A good rule of thumb: measure before shopping. Lower dining room tables or counters give you less leeway. Make sure to leave at least 9" between the underside of the table or counter and the bar stool. If you like to cross your legs, 13" is better.

Selecting the Right Bar Stools
Your personal taste and decor will also determine your home bar furniture selections. Are you going for an industrial-chic home happy hour headquarters? Sleek metal bar stools will fit perfectly. Are you creating a breakfast bar in a country-style kitchen? Rustic-look ladder-back barstools are a stylish accent.

Bar stools with backrests are the most comfortable choice for dining. Upholstered chairs with plush padding are great for lingering over coffee and dessert.
