How to Pick a Planter (or Pot) for Your Plants? Know before you grow! The terms “pot” and “planter” can be used interchangeably. However, pots are generally smaller, free-standing, round and are usually meant to contain one plant. Planters are generally meant for the outdoors, are an irregular size, and can contain many plants. Here at Macy’s, we use both terms to refer to our indoor and outdoor plant containers.

1. Standing Planters can be found as one large free-standing planter or as a smaller planter that includes a stand. Urn planters are commonly used for outdoors whereas planters with stands are better for indoors due to the variety of materials and designs offered.
