Expecting an addition to the family soon? Even if you’ve already picked out baby clothing for the new arrival to wear home from the hospital, you’ll probably need more baby clothes than you think! In fact, a newborn requires a few clothing changes per day in the first month. It can be challenging to get much done once the bundle of joy arrives (due to lack of sleep and frequent schedule adjustments), so we advise getting your baby’s wardrobe sorted out ahead of time. You’ll find everything, from newborn clothes to infant and toddler clothes, right in one place—at Macy’s!
The First Days
Everyone will be overjoyed to welcome this tiny new person into the world, but baby clothes gifted by well-meaning relatives and friends are often impractical or too large for newborns. Truthfully, it’s difficult to get a wriggly newborn baby girl or baby boy into anything beyond a diaper and a bodysuit.
Look for bodysuits that have simple snap closures designed for easy on-and-off. This will help parents get newborns dressed more quickly and prevent your baby’s delicate skin from getting too irritated by frequent changes.
The First Months
Your baby will probably gain around 1.5 pounds and grow around an inch each month, so don’t be surprised if he or she can’t fit into their newborn clothes after what seems like the blink of an eye.
The First Years
Baby apparel is sold by age and is sized three months at a time, from 0-3 months to 24 months. While you’ll want to have essential pieces on hand for the first stages of your child’s development, it’s better to wait a little while before buying clothing for toddler boys and toddler girls. Why? Because your child might be crawling at 12 months and need reinforced knee patches on every outfit. Or, they might be walking at 12 months, eliminating the need for reinforced knee patches on anything at all. Only time will tell.
