I'm surprised be the negative reviews of this product. Make no mistake, it's a medium-heavy weight knit as others have noted--- but I love because it doesn't show off my flabby bits, unlike light weight fabrics that serve as spotlights for cottage cheese. The cut of this dress is unbelievably flattering. I'm an apple shape (I store my weight in the midsection as opposed to the hips and thighs) and this minimizes the midsection, highlights the bosom, creates an hourglass silouette, flatters the calves and disguises any hip/butt issues. This truly would look great on any shape. Because of the quality of the fabric and the workmanship of this dress, it is truly effortlessly chic. Black ballet flats, silver hoop earings, and a colorful bag...so easy! I ordered a 20W and it seems to run true to size. I would say the hemline his just below the knee, not above the knee as pictured. I'm 5'8", if that helps.
I wasn't sure about this dress, mostly because it is more fitted than I have worn in the past few years. I really needed a black dress, so I bought it. When I wore it to work, everyone raved about it, saying that it was very stylish and flattering (I didn't ask their opinions, they just spoke up). Even a lady at the bus stop that I've never seen before told me what a nice dress it is. I agree that the polyester is a bit heavier, but since I'm old enough to remember the 70's very well, I guess I'm used to that. It also works well for Oregon for spring and fall, when the weather is very changeable.
The material is terrible! Like the polyester of the 1970's, very uncomfortable and itchy. Not a summer weight at all! Fabric is totaly not right for the style or season. I'm returning it. Too bad because I really liked the style.
This is not the standard matte jersey that you would expect. It is a rigid and has the nylon feel to it that is stiff and unflattering. The double belt accent at the waist doesn't work well because the fabric is so stiff and when cinched the fabric pinches and lays a bit awkwardly. It's just not very flattering. The sleeves were also a bit full and made me look a little frumpy.
This dress is full on 1970s polyester. It's heavy and I can imagine it would be very hot in the summer. If you are into that, you might want to order a size down if you want it to fit your waist. I have an hourglass figure and usually wear an 18, but the 18 did not flatter my waist at all.
