Waste of time and money

I was looking forward to July's book, but I was bitterly disappointed. I disliked the fact that her son was referred to a "they," which was confusing to me. Her character, and the things she does, imo, are way too "out there" (for me). After reading it, I am still wondering what the point of the book is other than a woman in mid-life. It is a fantasy of the author's or her reality. Either way, this book is not for everyone, and it certainly was not for me. I felt it was a waste of my time and money. I will look into future books a bit better next time.

Who Are We Really?

After experiencing a reading slump I picked up Miranda July's All Fours and it did not disappoint. I think it takes courage to write a novel like this, to be so honest and daring about sexuality and what it means to be a a woman in mid-life. Well written and funny, I recommend to anyone who enjoys taking risks in order to truly understand yourself.

Probably the worst book I’ve read.

I don’t understand why all the hype over this book. The unnamed main character is self centered and a bit bizarre. She is not very likable or remotely relatable. Perhaps it is the generational gap, but this story was tedious and failed to hold my interest. I glazed over so many times that it took forever to get through it. Frankly didn’t care what happened to her. Wasted purchase.

Loved her last book and this one did not disappoi!

Miranda July makes me feel normal. My inner voice would hang out with her’s. I loved her films and particularly her last book and this one was up there with it. The offbeat thinking and a character who is slightly unhinged but self aware make for good consumption. I do personally get a bit squirmy with sexual content and that was here as it is in most of her work, but it is what it is and she is just an author that is more comfortable with that than I am. Still a top pick for me.

So beautiful there are no words

I haven’t read Miranda July in years, and the re-discovery is life-altering. The book is stunning.

Just crazy this is acclaimed

Simply put if you swapped the genders of the main characters this book would be about a stalker’s descent into madness. The author keeps hammering the patriarchy while ignoring the flipside gender roles that keep her protagonist for being immediately jailed. Just so a deeply deeply creepy book. Ick indeed.

If I could give this zero stars I would!

Be sure to Google to get an explanation of what this book is really about! Won’t add spoilers here. This book is a piece of trash and I will be returning it! Nothing funny, interesting, actually has quite the “ick” factor.

First book I’ve ever returned in 55 years.

Self important drivel. Not a single character I could care about. I really wanted to like this book but ended up returning it… Something I have never done. Couldn’t even bring myself to put it in the neighbourhood libraries. Save your money… Absolutely shocked it is getting any sort of accolades. Tells me what is happening to society in America.
