We Solve Murders: A Novel by Richard Osman
Product Details
Web ID: 20312146Excellent series starter!
Another entertaining mystery from the author of The Thursday Murder Club series. Short witty chapters, multiple POVs, and endearing quirky characters brought this mystery to life. Action, assassins and intrigue kept me hooked to the end. I adored Amy and Steve’s relationship and Rosie was outrageous and funny. I can’t wait for more books in series!

Great mystery
We Solve Murders is a perfect combination of cozy mystery and thriller. Amy is a personal bodyguard. The firm she works for is going through some troubles. As in, someone is killing their bodyguards. Francois Loubet, a former client, is responsible, but no one knows who he really is. Amy is married to Adam, who also has a job that keeps him very busy. Amy talks to his father, Steve, every day. He's lonely after the death of his wife, and runs an investigation firm. Steve's insight has helped Amy before. When she realizes that not only is someone killing her coworkers but also planning to on the blame on her, she asks Steve to join her and help her solve the mystery of who is Francois Loubet. I love Osman's other books, so I was inclined to love this one, too. However, it doesn't have quite the same charm as they do. It's a great book, but not an over-the-top fabulous one. But mystery lovers will definitely enjoy it!

Osman Does It Again!
I admit that I love The Thursday Murder Club (and the rest of the series), so anything by Richard Osman was bound to get more than a passing glance from me. This story took me a couple of chapters to get into. I'm not sure if it was because it was a writer I enjoy, but with completely new characters and setting, or if I just needed to get into the right headspace to let go of reality and sink into the plot. Whatever it was that was holding me back, once I was around 50 pages in, I was hooked. It really seems to be such an odd couple. A take-charge young woman who works as private security for VIPs and a retired police officer would probably not have much in common if they didn't happen to be father-in-law and daughter-in-law. But when Amy learns that 3 recent clients have all been killed in suspicious ways while she was nearby on other assignments, suddenly Steve is her best choice for an ally. Mix in the best-selling author that Amy is currently guarding (who insists on sticking with Amy as she tries to investigate who is framing her), Steve's friends from his pub quiz team, and a few contacts they make as they globetrot after answers, and you have quite a range of personalities. Betrayals, native guides, helpful TSA agents, wandering ponies, things just keep piling on from page to page. By the time you reach the end, you will feel that you need some time in a spa to relax and not try to think anything complex for a while. But it will be worth it. Obviously it reminded me of The Thursday Murder Club because of the writing. It also felt a bit like The Spy Coast by Tess Gerritsen with a woman having to look through her past for clues about who is after her now, or Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn for similar reasons. If you like any of those authors or titles, you will enjoy We Solve Murders and be on the lookout for the second book in the series.

Osman does it again!
Finally, a 5-star read (I have only had one in 2024)! Richard Osman does it again, creating a cast of delightfully quirky characters that you can’t help but love. Right from the opening—where a criminal mastermind uses ChatGPT to write letters in the style of an English gentleman—I was hooked. The plot may span the globe, but it still maintains that cozy village feel that Osman is so good at. Readers will meet Amy, a trained bodyguard; her retired policeman father-in-law, Steve; and Rosie, a best-selling novelist of a certain age. Together, this unlikely trio tries to outsmart the hitmen sent to kill Amy while unraveling the mystery of why anyone would want her dead in the first place. There’s no shortage of colorful side characters, many of whom I hope we see again in future books. If you’re a fan of Only Murders in the Building, The Thursday Murder Club, or Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone, you’ll definitely want to give We Solve Murders a try! I ran the first paragraph through ChatGPT. Here it is, written in the style of an English gentleman. At last, a 5-star read, and I daresay it’s my first of the year! Richard Osman has once again delivered a splendid novel, full of delightfully eccentric characters whom one cannot help but become utterly enamored with. From the very outset—wherein a rather cunning criminal mastermind enlists the help of ChatGPT to pen letters in the style of an English gentleman—I found myself entirely engrossed.

We Solve Murders
Richard Osman writes exciting mysteries. The Thursday Murder Club details the lives of four senior citizens living in a retirement community. The book’s emotions range from laughter to tears. This latest book, We Solve Murders, begins a new series of murder and mayhew. The three main characters, Steve Wheeler, Amy Wheeler, and Rosie D’Antonio fly here and there in an attempt to find why all these individuals are being killed. Such a cast of unlikely people, and of course, a cat named Trouble. England stands as the main setting, but exotic places enter the picture quickly. The main problem rests with money laundering and the innocent “handlers” moving the money. My opinion rests with the other series.
