Let me start off by saying the majority of products at Baxter of California are well done and worth while. I read the bad reviews and still wanted to give the new one a try to compare. First off, I was surprised that the same "Hydro Salve" name is put on a starkly different product. It dishonors a previously successful product and makes me think it was done just so that good reviews could be kept on a new product. The previous formula of Hydro salve did what the name suggests. It would leave almost a glaze like feeling across your lips that was so powerful that if you put some on overnight on chapped lips or even cuts on a lip, the next day they could be plumped and healed. The new formula of "California Citrus" does the opposite. It looks like a glaze coming out, but acts like a regular stick of waxy and grainy chapstick once it dries on your lips. Your lips do not become smooth or feel moisturized. Instead, it feels like you have encased them with an uncomfortable barrier. I could care less about the flavor (mojito vs citrus) as long as the effect is prime. Unfortunately, the effect of this Hydro Salve Lip balm is extremely disappointing compared to the old formula. Looking at the reviews, I can see I'm not the only one who felt this way. Is there any chance Baxter of California will bring back the original?
