Not what I expect from Martha
    Dec 24, 2013

I needed a cake stand STAT, and the selection in my local Macy's wasn't great. I actually fell in love with a crystal stand that could be used as 4 different pieces, but I was worried it was too heavy for me. My space is small so it would need to be placed up high to store and I was worried I would drop it. I love Martha Stewart, but this piece didn't have the grandeur and class that I have come to expect from her. Yes, it is black - and I worried about that a lot. What disappointed me was the quality. When I was washing the base you can see a couple of areas where the paint dripped. These are quite large areas. Luckily they are on the underside and not visible by guests. Also, the dome is very, very fragile. The instructions say to wash in cold water only and not to submerge in hot water. That should give you an indication of the thinness of the dome. With soapy hands it is not easy to hold on to. Say a few prayers and line your sink with a dish towel to be safe. It is packed very, very well, almost too well. I feared breaking the dome because the base and dome are secured in the same Styrofoam. I needed three people to take it out (which I didn't have#. I will keep it because I don't have time on Christmas Eve to return it with all the other things I have to do. But, if I had it to do over again I would have gotten one of the other MS cake stands #yes, all of her domes are very thin) or I would have gone with my gut and gotten the heavy crystal one for $3 more.

    Cake Plate Review

I love the stand and the material it is made of. The glass cover is a bit precarious. You can't wash it with hot or warm water, only cold. That is a problem if you have gotten icing on the cover. Since the oils are hard to get off with just cold water. Also the cover or dome is a little small. It is tight to fit over a 9 inch cake.
