Go To Dinners
Let me start by saying, I love Ina. My Ina books are always the first ones I reach for when having company or just searching for something good to make. Go To Dinners definetley doesnt dissappoint and is full of great recipes that are easy and approachable. The chicken in a pot with orzo, salmon teriyaki & broccolini and mushroom bolognese have all been favorites with my family (including my 3 and 5 year old). Go to Dinners is a great addition to the Ina collection. Thank you Clarkson Potter for the free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Dinners to Go-To Daily
I seem to collect cookbooks like I do novels, and there are specific people I always look forward to releasing new cookbooks. Ina Garten aka the Barefoot Contessa, is one of those at the top of my list. GO-TO DINNERS is another beautiful cookbook. I love that each recipe includes at least one gorgeous photo and that the recipes themselves are easy to follow. GO-TO DINNERS is a direct result of the pandemic, both the shortages and the necessity of having to make do with what you had in the pantry and realizing that sometimes simpler and comfort food are just what is needed. I have so many recipes flagged; it may have made more sense to flag the ones that I wasn’t interested in (mainly things I can’t eat). The Overnight Mac & Cheese will be in constant rotation here with my mac & cheese lovers (how easy is it to prep, toss in the fridge, then come home and bake it?). I can’t wait to cook my way through all these recipes and add more to our go-to rotation. I also love that Garten admitted to what all of us (or most of us) run into quite a bit: cooking fatigue. Sometimes it’s just exhausting to figure it out daily, then actually cook it. There are options for different kinds of boards you can put together and options for breakfast for dinner (something I am already doing more of). I am really happy to add GO-TO DINNERS to my shelf and already can’t wait for Garten’s next offering. Thanks to Clarkson Potter for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own and freely given. #GOTODINNERSCOOKBOOK #INAGARTEN #BAREFOOTCONTESSA #CLARKSONPOTTER #COOKBOOK

Consistent for Ida: Pretty, Not Inventive
If you enjoyed Ida Garten's previous books, you will likely enjoy Go-To Dinners as well. Like her previous cookbooks, it is beautifully styled and printed on sturdy, glossy paper. There is a full-page glossy photo for every recipe, even garlic and herb butter. As she explains in the introduction, her approach to cooking shifted in the pandemic when there was uncertainty about the ability to get fresh groceries. She started to simplify and abandoning her dislike of leftovers, began to plan ahead in order to utilize leftovers from one meal as the basis or complement to another. For example, she would dice leftover Hasselback Kielbasa to add to Tuscan White Bean Soup the next day. Ina provides what she calls "lots of simply 'assembled' dishes and boards" in this book, such as Melon and Prosciutto as well as Croissants with Smoked Salmon. There are four boards: Antipasto, Breakfast-for-Dinner, Ploughman's Lunch and Dessert. Chapters are consistent with her previous books: Drinks & Apps, Breakfast for Dinner, Light Dinners, Family Dinners, Vegetables & Sides, and Desserts. There weren't any recipes I considered new or particularly inventive, with a flavor combination I haven't seen in at least a dozen other cookbooks. There is not really a special twist on the recipes for Creamy Hummus, Heirloom Tomato and Blue Cheese Salad, English Cream Scones, Veal Meatballs and Vanilla Pound Cake to make them stand out, just as a few examples. If you're looking for a coffee table book more than truly fresh ideas and are an Ina Garten fan, this will not likely disappoint you which is why I gave it for four stars. The book is not appealing to me, particularly as a vegetarian, because I can find the few recipes I would make as a vegetarian in many other books. Really go-to dinners. Recipes you can trust.
Every time I see a new cookbook from Ina, I ask myself if we need another cookbook from Ina. Well, the answer is always yes. It seems like in every book; she perfects even more the idea of easy and accessible cooking, yet elegant and refined. Go-To Dinners is no different— I would cook absolutely every recipe from this book, and none of them would feel dated or repetitive. Some recipes are so unique, such as the Roasted Shrimp Panzanella and the Rum Raisin Ricotta Ice Cream, while others tend to go in the classic direction, such as the Dark Chocolate Tart and the Buttermilk Biscuits. All are equally good and trusty. I think you’ll be satisfied to have this cookbook added to your Barefoot Contessa’s collection. Meals Are a Way to Say I Love You
I love this concept for a cookbook and truly appreciate the ease and quickness of the recipes as a single mother. Ina's words, that meals are a way to say I love you, are so so true especially as a mom. I also had to relax my dinners quite a bit in the pandemic and unfortunately my recipes and go-to's looked nothing like Ina's. But I'm thrilled to be using this cookbook now, and love the sections: Easy, Make Ahead, Prep Ahead, Freeze Ahead, and Assembled. My favorite recipes are the creamy hummus, the warm vegetable & grain bowl, and my 4 year old daughter loves the overnight mac & cheese. It's so easy for me to just prep the night before while I'm waiting for something else to cook, put in the fridge, and then bake easily the next night on busy swim lesson days or when we have a lot on our plate. For snacks when friends come over, I love the melon and prosciutto and the bourbon arnold palmers (for adult friends, not my daughter's friends, obviously). Ina really gets it, and this is a must have for the busy working mom! I've received a free copy from Clarkson Potter in exchange for a free and unbiased review.

Simple dinner recipes for the beginner home cook
Go-to Dinners is Ina Garten's new cookbook designed for quick and relatively straightforward meals when one is feeling less than inspired. While I thought the desserts had some interesting recipes, I thought the entrees were a bit basic. I think only those home chefs that lean towards the beginner side will find the recipes for entrees helpful. Much of them seemed like any intermediate home chef might come up on their own such a gruyere omelette, homemade chicken stock, marble potatoes with garlic and herbs or melon and prosciutto. The desert section, on the other hand, had a few deserts I was interested in trying out. This include the recipe for panettone bread pudding and easy chocolate mousse. There is also a dark chocolate tart recipe adapted from Erin French's cookbook The Lost Kitchen which seemed straightforward and that I am looking forward to making. I think this book would be a welcome addition to the cookbook collection for a beginner chef. Anyone else might find the recipes a bit too basic. Solid but not my favorite Ina book
Ina can do no wrong, and this is a great concise and sweet book to pull out for practical and fun dishes that just taste yummy. Dishes like Chicken with Orzo are flavorful and simple; sophisticated enough for entertaining and comforting enough for a Tuesday at home. That being said, I find some of Ina’s other books much more inspiring and creative. Also, the brand name suggestions for certain ingredients in almost every recipe feels a bit heavy; more like a pay-to-play product placement and less like a true recommendation from Ina.

Classic
Ina Garten nails both classic flavors and convenience in this book. The cookbook opens with a very endearing letter from Ina, explaining how she previously never used to eat leftovers- a sentiment I relate to. Drawing from that feeling, she decided to create recipes that could be a little less fussy while actually making herself into a leftover-believer. Inside, Ina offers convenient ways to cook up old classics and uncomplicates dinner. I was pleasantly surprised by how many recipes I started earmarking to make for later- she even has a cocktail section! If you're looking for ground-breaking flavors, this isn't for you. However, if you want a healthy mix of easy and comforting classics, this book has you covered! Ina covers any mood you may be in- low-fuss recipes or preparing to feed a party!
