This book kept me on my toes the entire time. Filled with a lot of well detailed and delicious spice. But that did not take away from the fantastic story line. So many things happened and it was so fricken good.

Ok ok ok
The intimate scenes were redundant and kind of funny, but I enjoyed the story overall. I didn’t realize it was a series when I bought it so I was in a panic when I hit the cliffhanger.

This book had a hold on me from page one
Having loved Scarlett St. Clair's A Touch of Darkness I knew I would ultimately enjoy King of Battle and Blood and I was not wrong. This book had a hold on me from page one and I didn't want to put it down for anything, I actually went back and forth with the audio and ebook due to this. It had everything I love about a good vampire, fantasy romance but with witches and ultimately what seems to be a villain origin story thrown right in. Seriously, I love the fact that the characters in this story do not choose the high road, not even once. It made for an interesting cast of wholly morally grey characters who seemingly started out as the good guys but decided revenge was much sweeter. Not to mention that I was thoroughly intrigued by the world that Scarlett started to build in this including the magic system as well as the different goddesses. Actually one of my minor negatives about this one, that I bet will be fixed in future books, is that I didn't feel like the world was delved into as much as I wanted. I definitely wanted more of that. My only other negative is that I really loved the side characters but didn't feel like we got enough of them either. And I really hope we get more of them! Beyond both of those things I really loved Isolde and how she was the take names, make it happen, badass type of character who wasn't afraid to become the villain to protect those she cares about. She actually reminded me so much of Zetian from Iron Widow and I was here for it. And don't even get me started on Adrian who is introduced as this badass, feared vampire king only to not only still be the above but also a big softy for Isolde. I loved him. Plus, the spice... if you know you know! I will say that I guessed the big plot twist way ahead of time, like within the first 20% or so of the book. It was very obvious but I usually love guessing twists ahead of time so I was completely okay with that. The ENDING though! I was on the edge of my seat for it and couldn't read that last chapter fast enough. Now I'm about to go dive into the second book because I need to know what happens next.
