Reckless Girls was one of favorites this year..it was really good. Loaded with great characters, interesting storylines, and left me questioning my every” which reckless girl was it” thought.

Lord of the Flies meets The Beach
Synopsis: Meroe Island, a spectacularly beautiful deserted island with a dark history of shipwrecks, cannibalism and death. So naturally, it’s a tourist destination. When Lux and her boyfriend are propositioned by two travelers to sail them all to Meroe for two weeks they take it, knowing the money can help them with their future plans. When they arrive at the island, there’s another boat there already and the group quickly becomes friends, drinking and swimming the days away. But they were warned, the island changes people. Who will make it off alive? Review: Think The Beach meets Lord Of the Flies. Amazing, I loved every second and didn’t want it to end! I was told this one was good and let it sit on my shelf for too long, don’t make my mistake! Get yourself a copy ASAP @mywanderlustlibrary

Not what I was expecting
While I didn't think this book was bad, it definitely was not at all like I had been expecting. I liked the use of flashback scenes (well, more like scenes taking place before the present), and the writing itself was nice. Not a lot happens though until the end. Don't have much to say about the main story; it was okay, if somewhat boring. . . (Possible spoilers, depending on how you look at it) Follows this modern theme that rich men are the cause of all an individuals problems, and it's very nuanced about that. Certain dark motives feel justified, and not in an anti-hero-type ending. I don't know; some of these themes in modern books are a bit uncomfortable; they feel less like themes being used, and more like the author's personal opinions. Maybe I'm just interpreting it wrong, but it seems pretty prevalent in many other books I'm reading. Anyway, I didn't dislike this book, it just ended up going in a very different direction than I had anticipated it would. I do want to read the author's other books, so it wasn't bad enough to turn me away from those. Just didn't live up to my expectations.

Paradise is Not Always Beautiful
Lux McAllister hasn’t had it easy. Her dad left her mom and started a new family. She had to quit college to care for her ailing mom until she died and left her with no money. Working as a waitress just to get by she meets the charming Nico who is sailing to Maui and invites her to join him. Of course, things don’t go well and now Lux is cleaning hotel rooms to help Nico fix his boat. But, she loves him so she sticks by him. One night they meet two best friends, Brittany and Amma who want to hire Nico for $50,000 plus pay for his repairs to take them to Meroe Island, isolated in the Pacific because they are looking for an adventure. I was raised on the premise that if something “sounds too good to be true it probably is”, but evidently Nico and Lux didn’t get the message. Nico and Lux agree to the opportunity and off they go with no worries. When they finally arrive at the “deserted” island there is already another boat anchored there with a very nice couple, Eliza and Jake who provide the group with lots of alcohol and food. And then another stranger, Robbie, suddenly arrives in an old sailboat. At this point, I began to feel something sinister looming. Strange things begin to happen, alliances change and I began to dislike all of the characters immensely. However, I was still captivated by the story. I gave this book three stars which means I liked it, although I did not love it.
