Powerful teachings!

I was given this book a few years ago and am now rereading it, and really trying to absorb these teachings. Each one of these agreements is significant in itself, and if adopted, I believe will create powerful shifts in how one interacts with others and how one can center themselves in any interactions with loved ones or complete strangers alike. Such a small book and so powerful.

Life's Blueprint

The Four Agreements" by Miguel Ruiz has become a staple in my library. This book is among the few transformational books that have profoundly impacted me, alongside The Catholic Bible and The Art of Happiness. Without giving away any spoilers, I can only say that this book delves into the mental chaos that holds us back from truly living. The introduction may be challenging, but it's worth pushing through and setting aside any judgments. The concepts presented are not groundbreaking or revolutionary. They are practical, evident, and could even be considered common sense. However, they can be easily overlooked as we get caught up in the busyness of life. That's why reading this book brings these ideas to the forefront, where they are much needed. I highly recommend taking action, reading this book, and becoming the main protagonist of your own life!

138 pages of incoherent religious rambling

This book describes four agreements to make with yourself: - be impeccable with your word - don’t take anything personally - don’t make assumptions - always do your best This book reads like the author read those 4 bullet points and then had nothing to add. The content of the book is like if you combined my grandmother’s unintelligible religious conspiracy theory rants with ai hallucination. It uses new age-y religious rambling and magical thinking and a little bit of argument from antiquity with the claim that it is of Toltec origin to try to back up the agreements, but in my case it just made me frustrated like I was stuck in the middle of one of my grandmother’s conspiracy theory rants. As for the core message of the chapter titles, I think for the right person, reading those four bullet points can be helpful, but each of those statements could also be very dangerous for the wrong person to be told. I think the best bet is to just not read this book, and instead look at the 4 agreements themselves (the chapter titles) and think about what that means to you and whether it would be healthy to make such an agreement.

Everyone should read at least once

This book was just all-around great honestly, it questioned a lot of my thoughts and came to me at a great time I would say. This book is something that I want to start applying to my own life, to just get me to become a better version of myself. I also loved how the author never forced his agreements but he just gave great examples of how these agreements can help to grow you as a person. He also kept the same examples throughout which was just a cherry on top for me. -first agreement: be impeccable with your word. -second agreement: don’t take anything personally. -third agreement: don’t make assumptions -fourth agreement: always do your best -The masters to become Toltec: mastery of awareness, mastery of transformation, mastery of intent.

Amazing! Totally uplifting and non-denominational

My supervisor many years ago gave this book to me when I had moved to San Diego after being away for a very long time. I read it in 2003 and spent hours on the beach watching the waves and totally engulfed in the words. I really liked that it wasn't focused on any religious content but just whole heartedly personal freedom from daily encounters and an understanding of each individual identity and character. There was a specific part I still remember from many years ago, it discussed how when a person is having to talk about their past, something they may or may not be very inclined to share such personal information, calling someone out, you are forcing them to relive those moments again. Something that may have caused pain on ones life. Allowing each person to move on from their past and pursue a life designed as they see fit. That was a section my boss told me to be sure and focus on and I've never forgot it. Great book!

Not worth the hype

I had heard amazing things about this book from a lot of different people. I finally decided to give it a try. I purchased this as part of the trio from the author and read this one first. I have to say, I was beyond disappointed. The actual four "agreements" were good points and I think the intended message of the book was fantastic. HOWEVER, the writing style of this author absolutely ruined the entire book for me. The writing style came off as an absolute rant, lacked structure and with soooo many redundancies it drove me crazy. It was like reading someone's random thought journal instead of a published book. Again, the message was great, but I didn't see it as nearly the big deal as everyone else has. The other two books in the trio ("Mastery of Love" and "Voice of Knowledge") were in the same style and were just as unappealing to read, despite each also having a great overall message. Oh well, money already spent.

LIfe Changing!

I have a friend in prison. I sent him "The Four Agreements" box set. I received a letter from him that not only is he enjoying the books, so are all of the other inmates. I read these books years ago and they changed my life.
