Beautiful

A novel about life and choices we make. Beautiful, sentimental and honest. Good book and the audio version is amazing as well!

cannot recommend enough

this book is so inspiring it seriously changed my perspective on life. biggest takeaway: we focus entirely too much on our *regrets* of what we could have done, rather than praising ourselves for the fact that we had the potential and ability in the first place to do those very things. i even found one of my all time favorite quotes in this book: “to be the world, witnessing itself” (p. 137)

the power of small things

Never underestimate the big power of small things. This is a gem of a novel, quirky, relatable, funny, tragic, very human. We have all, at one time or another, wondered "what if..." and many of our pivotal life moments have been the result of what-ifs. If you didn't go to that party, you would never meet your future spouse. If you didn't take a chance on a job offer, you wouldn't have your dream career. Likewise, personal actions and acts of kindness that seem small to us may have tremendous meaning to others. This narrative takes a protagonist in a state of despair and allows her to explore these ideas to the nth degree. With each iteration of her "what-if" life, Nora discovers more about herself and her choices, and also is able to see herself more clearly. Through her, we as readers can work through ideas and questions about our own life experiences. She goes through a progression from darkness and regret to reconciliation, to possibility to decision. As the story progresses, we want to know what choices Nora will make for herself and her future. The magical realism of the novel feels comfortable and accessible, the author's use of language is straightforward and heartfelt, and the theme of the power of human connection is universal. This sparked some interesting questions and conversation in our book club meeting.

I loved it!!

The Midnight Library is a great book for anyone feeling that life isn’t everything they expected it to be. What would you do if you could change your life completely? Nora attempts suicide, finds herself between life and death and ends up in the midnight library. Here can pick up books that take her to alternative lives. I was stunned by how much I love this book and how much it means to me. Coincidentally I have been spending some time thinking about my purpose and place in this life and this book was very intrigueing. I lovede it and I highly recommend it.

Truly Brought to Tears, what an amazing read

**Trigger Warning** - Depression and Suicidal Thoughts I can’t really describe this book as eloquently as others have especially not without spoiling it either. This book was an amazing allegory about depression and one’s regrets in life. As someone who also struggles with depression, I really related to main character, Nora Seed. The feelings of hopelessness and despair felt all too familiar. With that being said the ending was predictable but I was still crying as it wrapped up. It’s so rare for me to write reviews on anything much less books but I was so moved that it inspired me to share some thoughts. While I did originally read this from a library, I intend to get a copy for myself to keep.
