The larger one is very useful. It's a good size and shape for salad for 4 and also is convenient for eating noodle dishes with various toppings. The 8-1/4", of which I ordered 6, never showed up at my house. I'm sure wherever they went, that THIEF must be happy with them. They were never returned...
The porcelain from which the bowl is made is very refine. I purchased this with the intent to use it as a serving dish but find the size and depth limiting. The larger 14" bowl is more useful. The shape is elegant and functional.
