From BookTok sensation Emily McIntire comes a dark and delicious fractured fairy tale reimagining of The Wizard of Oz. A woman can be great, and terrible too. Evelina Westerly has always been the bad guy. As the brains, brawn, and botanist behind her family's drug empire, she's her father's ruthless secret weapon. With her days divided between perfecting her greenhouse, seeking revenge for her sister's murder, and putting a gun to the head of anyone in her way, Evelina doesn't have time for anything else. Especially not for love. After a one-night stand with a gorgeous man at a nightclub, she's sated her urges and is back to her criminal ways. That is, until that same man shows up as the new Westerly lackey... under a totally different name. But Nicholas Woods worth's real secret is much more dangerous than an alias. He's an undercover DEA agent, and he's hell-bent on destroying the drug trade that devastated his family. When he realizes the youngest daughter of the Westerly empire is the same woman he's been fantasizing about since that night at the club, attraction wars violently with disgust. Evelina embodies everything he's against, and he's been sent here to be her downfall. Yet the more they learn about the darkness in each other's hearts, the more alike they seem, and when hatred turns to something more, Nicholas will have to decide whether he can love a wretched woman, even if it means bringing both of their lives to ruin.

Wicked Witch Meets Her Match

HOLY SMOKES! Someone get me a fan as I am still overheating from these spicy scenes. Think I am with the majority of positive review readers in saying that gun scene... PHEW! With that being said, this is a DARK contemporary enemies to lovers romance and there is an abundance of graphic and explicit scenes. I would caution those who don't gel with these types of books. I couldn't put this one down. The Never After series are hitting that sweet spot for me. In a world where Flying Monkey heroin is produced under a yellow brick road by a wicked woman, Wretched is the Wizard of Oz dark romance I didn't think existed. Eveline Westerly is truly a psycho, but you can't help by sympathize with her plight. Reminded me of Wicked; you can't help but want to cheer her on and want her to find a way out. She has a nasty sister, Dorothy, who killed their other sister, Nessa, and a criminal father who uses Evie for his own gain. Evie does all the dirty work no one else will do. In comes the new guy, Brayden, and Evie's world is turned upside down after recognizing he was a sizzling fling in a club bathroom a month prior, but with a different name. Brayden, aka Nick, is an undercover DEA agent sent into the Westerly operation to find the supplier. What Nick doesn't expect is to get in too deep with Evie as he tries to reconcile his lies and fake background with the bits of truth he keeps letting slip. Their relationship is volatile, to say the least, but it is clear they are two halves to a screwed up whole. It should be noted that as a reviewer, I obviously do not condone any of the violence/behavior that occurred in this book, but I can still say this was a great book as I knew what I was going to get. I liked the ending, but I felt it was missing something that I can't put my finger on. Not sure if it felt rushed or what. Like the prior two books, I appreciated every little reference in the book. As always, I love a good playlist to get you in the mood and try to place each song as you read along. Worth a listen to as you read!

Emotional! Sexy! And, DARK!

This really is DARK! Definitely read the trigger warnings! I loved the story! I loved the characters, all of them, including supporting characters! I love that Nick is torn! How can he lust after her? How? Eveline is suspicious! There's that feeling. There are inconsistencies in his story! But, he makes her feel. She makes him feel! They made me FEEL! OMG! Emotional! Sexy! And, yes, I said it DARK! FIVE PLUS STARS from ME!

Loved it!

Sultry, gripping, satisfying. Another great retelling by Emily McIntire. I couldn’t put this book down. Crime family in IL (my state!!) and an undercover op all tied together with a Female villain which we don’t see enough. This had to be my second favorite in the series.

Entire series is amazing

I would rate this my 3rd favorite out of the 4. A couple inconsistencies in the descriptions and world building kinda broke the spell a few times, but other than that, another great book from the author. Was also a really quick read for me, so I didn't have to stay up until 3 am.

This book is everything!

“But if I’m her calm, then she is my chaos, and if I can’t live with her forever, then I don’t want to live at all” Girl crush alert, Eveline is everything you never knew you needed and more and Nicholas is just swoon. We don’t always get absolute badass female main characters and I was so here for it. The back story, the twist and turns, and ahhh everything.

Fantastically juicy.

This book was definitely a page Turner. I definitely loved the dialogue between Evelyn and Nick a.k.a. Brayden. As you’re reading the story you kinda get the feel of Wizard of Oz. If Wizard of Oz had a darker tone to it, and if you think of the wizard as a mob boss. Just because the book does reference some minor details from Wizard of Oz like the shoes and Evelyn‘s sister named Dorothy. So you kind of get that feeling of a retelling, but it’s not a retelling what’s so Weber; What the author does with this book is gets you hooked right away especially with some nice juicy romance to start off with. And it just keeps building on itself as you continue to read. So if you like a strong independent woman female lead character and a strong independent male lead character in this book is for you. Also if you like the romance and the family drama and just to keep you hooked kind of book this is for you. And anything written by this author is amazing. If you enjoyed reading this book then you will definitely enjoy her other books. Hooked & Scarred are two other books that are worth buying.
