I adore the look of the Le Creuset tableware (we have it in Flame, aka. Volcanic). We've had our set for almost 3 years now and I can attest to its durability. One plate chipped early-on, and was promptly replaced by Le Creuset. Sadly, this collection is not without significant faults.
Foremost, know that the "dinner plates" are HUGE. With a 12" diameter, they're more akin to a charger than a dinner plate. They also weigh almost 3 Lbs EACH (2 lbs, 14 oz to be precise), and that's without a scrap of food on them. Sadly, these plates are relegated to the top shelf of my cupboard and rarely see daylight. The "salad plates" are a more reasonable 10", and are what we typically use for meals. The "soup bowls" (also 10") have about a 14oz capacity, but that's filling it right to the rim, and don't fool yourself- these "bowls" are less than 1" deep, so good luck getting that liquid to your seat without sloshing it all over. We ended up purchasing the Le Creuset small bowls (Web ID: 1254441) to use for soups, cereal, ice cream, etc...and typically use the soup bowls from this set as we would a plate.
My biggest complaint, however, is that this set does not come with a small plate/saucer. More over, Le Creuset doesn't even sell any plate smaller than 10" separately (one can buy espresso or cappuccino cup and saucer sets, but as this set comes with mugs, that may leave you with an abundance of rarely-used drinkware). I consider an appetizer/dessert plate an essential part of a tableware collection (who wants to use a 10" plate for a sandwich or a small snack?) so the collection's lack of smaller options is particularly glaring to me.
To sum up, the pieces are very attractive and I think they'll spend the test of time. However, if I was making my decision today, I'd skip the 4-piece set and buy the Salad Plates, Small Bowls and Cappuccino Mugs/Saucer sets separately.
I thought they were gorgeous just not sensible for daily use. If someone dropped a plate my hardwood floor would be dented - that's how heavy they are! Back they go. Too bad! Probably three times as heavy as a normal plate.
I have these settingsin orange and yellow. I've had them for years and I want all of the colors. Le Creuset is one of the best brands. My next purchase the red. You can really mix and match and your guests will drool when they come by.
Yes, I recommend this product.
