This is great china - actually its bone chine which means its extremely hard and when you use metal or silver you may see light grey marks - THIS IS COMPLETELY NORMAL and easily comes off with a bit of Soft scrub or Bon Ami or Bar Keepers friend. This happens with the best bone china - Royal Doulton, Wedgwood, etc.

Love this bowl. It's great for a serving bowl or to put fruit in and place on the counter. I have it in white and gray and have the smaller size too. Love them!

Looks nice when serving - it is a little different shape, which makes for a perfect serving piece or addition.

I purchased the Portmirion Sophie Conran large white salad bowl for a wedding gift (per the wedding registry). Everyone at the shower thought the dinnerware pattern was so nice and very classy and elegant looking! Even thought the pattern is the couple's everyday dinnerware, the serving pieces are nice enough to be used with both their everyday and their formal china pattern.

I got it for my friend and she was really happy and gratefulness when she opened it. Her exclamations were about what wonderful gift, precious and useful. Finally she sshe said: my best Christmas's gift.
