Macy’s Raises $1 Million for Make-A-Wish on National Believe Day

Macy’s Raises $1 Million for Make-A-Wish on National Believe Day

On Dec. 6, Macy’s celebrated National Believe Day and delivered one of the greatest gifts across the country – the gift of hope. For the past 12 years, we’ve partnered with Make-A-Wish for our annual Believe campaign, helping make wishes come true for children with critical illnesses. This year was our most successful National Believe Day to date. We exceeded our goal and collected 1,348,107 letters in one day to raise $1 million for Make-A-Wish. That’s in addition to the $1 million we’ve committed for letters collected through December 24. Let’s look at the stories behind the grassroots efforts in our local stores, offices and communities that made the incredible gift of this day possible.

Our Believe letter-writing campaign captures the holiday spirit by asking the community to write their letters to Santa to help Make-A-Wish grant wishes for children with critical illnesses. On National Believe Day, we doubled our donation to Make-A-Wish, pledging $2 for each letter collected, up to an additional $1 million, above the existing $1 million campaign goal.

“Each year, we’re in awe of the outpouring of support for the Macy’s Believe campaign on National Believe Day,” said Sam Di Scipio, Macy’s senior director of corporate communications, giving and volunteerism. “It’s a remarkable day as communities across the country and customers of all ages work together to help Macy’s raise another $1 million for Make-A-Wish in one single day. Just imagine how many wishes that grants and how many smiles it will bring to children battling critical illnesses.”

Anthony’s wish to be a Vikings player will be granted on December 28. In preparation for his wish, Harris helped him pick out his gameday gear as part of the National Believe Day celebration.
