How Jill Jill Stuart Became Macy’s Latest Designer Collaboration
Every season, the Macy’s Fashion Office teams up with top fashion designers to create amazing, on-trend collaborations, exclusively for Macy’s. This spring, it’s all about the new Jill Jill Stuart collection of breezy floral dresses, decadent ruffle tops and voluminous pants and skirts. So, how exactly did this cool collaboration come to be and which item is your closet craving? We went straight to the source, head of Macy’s Fashion Office Cassandra Jones, to learn what it takes to bring these designer looks to life.
“Each season, we look at broad overarching trends, while simultaneously creating a shortlist of brands and designers whom we would love to partner with,” says Cassandra. For Spring 2018, her team saw ruffles, modern florals and feminine silhouettes on the horizon and as for that list of designers, Jill Stuart’s name was right at the top.
New York City native Jill Stuart was born into the world of fashion as her parents ran their own sportswear from Manhattan’s Garment District throughout her childhood. By age 15, Stuart, a budding fashion phenom, sold her first collection and has been enchanting the industry with her delicate and romantic designs ever since.
Naturally, Stuart came straight to mind when Cassandra’s team was on the search for an on-trend spring collection with pretty little details. Stuart’s feminine brand aesthetic flawlessly highlights those top trends spotted by the Fashion Office. But being on-trend isn’t the only thing Cassandra searches for in a design partner.
“When collaborating with outside brands, we look for designers who have iconic style and a strong identity that aligns with our customers’ values,” Cassandra explains. “Our customer has told us that she wants to feel pretty and put-together no matter the occasion.”
With a focus on soft pink floral prints and baby blue shades, Stuart created the ultimate spring wardrobe of ruffled wrap dresses, asymmetrical frocks, cropped chambray pants and eyelet tops and skirts, exclusively for us. The one must-have piece from the collection? According to Cassandra, “the cascading ruffle dress is so gorgeous and so quintessentially spring.”
As the head of Macy’s Fashion Office, Cassandra Jones scours the world for what’s about to be hot and brings it straight to you. The small town girl from Huron, South Dakota believes fashion is a way to express and feel good about yourself.
