How do I exchange merchandise?

If you received an order and would like a different size or color, here’s how exchanges work.

Exchange in a Store
 
  • Store purchases: Must be exchanged in a Macy’s store
  • Online purchases: Can be exchanged in a store or returned by mail

 

Note: Mail exchanges are processed as returns—not direct exchanges.

To help us find your purchase faster, bring your receipt if you have it. If you don’t have it, we can often look it up using:

  • Credit card used for purchase
  • Packing slip or return label
  • Order or shipping confirmation email
  • Registry number

Mail exchanges are handled as returns:

  • Only online purchases can be returned by mail
  • Return the item you don’t want (by mail or in store)
  • Once your return is processed, you’ll receive a refund
  • Place a new order for the item you want at the current price
