Mattress Recycling Fee

What is a Mattress Recycling Fee?

A mattress recycling fee is required by law in certain states and helps fund state‑run programs that recycle used mattresses and box springs in an environmentally responsible way.

This fee applies to deliveries in the following states:

  • California
  • Connecticut
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island

How the mattress recycling fee works

When it’s collected:

The fee is charged at the time of purchase and is based on the delivery address, not the billing address.

How it’s applied

The fee is charged per piece.
Example: A king mattress set with two foundations would include three recycling fees.

Tax information
In some states, the recycling fee may be subject to sales tax.

What the fee supports
State recycling programs that allow customers to drop off used mattresses or arrange recycling through approved organizations—often at little or no cost.
