#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In her latest book, Brené Brown writes, "If we want to find the way back to ourselves and one another, we need language and the grounded confidence to both tell our stories and be stewards of the stories that we hear. This is the framework for meaningful connection."In Atlas of the Heart, Brown takes us on a journey through eighty-seven of the emotions and experiences that define what it means to be human. As she maps the necessary skills and an actionable framework for meaningful connection, she gives us the language and tools to access a universe of new choices and second chances a universe where we can share and steward the stories of our bravest and most heartbreaking moments with one another in a way that builds connection. Over the past two decades, Brown's extensive research into the experiences that make us who we are has shaped the cultural conversation and helped define what it means to be courageous with our lives. Atlas of the Heart draws on this research, as well as on Brown's singular skills as a storyteller, to show us how accurately naming an experience doesn't give the experience more power—it gives us the power of understanding, meaning, and choice. Brown shares, "I want this book to be an atlas for all of us, because I believe that, with an adventurous heart and the right maps, we can.

I buy extra copies of this book to give away!

After leafing through this book and previously reading other works by Brené Brown, I decided I absolutely must buy this book and I am glad I did! It has a different layout than most psychology books and even her other books but this is EXACTLY what I appreciate about it! It has fun pictures, colorful pages, wonderful wisdom in a short span of time and is just all around a refreshing gem! I work 60 hours a week and have a myriad of things going on in my life like most of us here on earth, and this book absolutely gives you a moment to snack on some good ol’ reading If you are feeling pressed for time. I recommend this 1000%.

Everyone should read this book

Understanding the depth of language for explaining our human emotions is key to understanding your own emotional experience. Informative, challenging, and sometimes moving, this made me want to check out other titles by Brown.

A Must Read!

The last book I had read from Brown was one of her old ones—Rising Strong: How the Ability to Reset Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead. When I heard that Brown had published yet another book, I knew I had to get a copy! I heard about it in April while sitting in a support group and it took me about five months to get to #1 on the waiting list at my local library. Prior to that, I didn't see the cover of the book. So when I held the book in my hands, I looked at the cover, smiled, and said "clever." I was one of those geeky kids that loved atlases while growing up. To see how the word "atlas" was used not only on the title but as a wedge to move the readers to the heart of humanity was very creative! :) Connection is what we often desire but lack the know-how. After sharing various correct meanings ("correct" as meaning from researching the origin, etc. of words) of different emotions (the ones that amazed me were schadenfreude, amusement, pity, anger, pride, and humility), Brené Brown closes out her book in yet another clever way (I just cannot stop using the word "clever" to describe this book!). It was as if she was setting up the book for this great crescendo: how to cultivate meaningful connection. Before getting into this, Brown takes the time to explain the circle of science—how something is either a hypothesis or theory and, after certain amounts of observations, it circles back to either another hypothesis or theory. After such an explanation, the reader is more open to hear what Brown has to say afterwards. I would like to end this book review by pointing out the artistry that is also presented on the cover and within the book. It's eye-catching and, once again, brought out the love for atlases that is still within me after all of these years from childhood. There are various quotes placed on colorful backgrounds, images that grab your attention at the beginning of each chapter (with a bonus of additional photos throughout each chapter), and even has several comic strips to bring a point home. If you have never read any of Brené Brown's books, I would recommend this one first. Not because it's her latest one. It's because she often ties in her previous published books within Atlas of the Heart and, therefore, it gives you a taste of what is more to come if you find a copy of the others and read them for yourself.

Must read if you can ignore the left ideology

5 star for the definitions of emotions and the classification. They are helpful to analyze emotions. The left leaning examples, in whose place a more relevant example could have been used, makes the book to as a mouthpiece for the left. Disappointment that such a great read was spoilt by political bias. Hence the 2 start review.

Leftist views showed too much in this one

I love Brene Brown and every one of her books you get the gist that she is a leftist, however anyone can still relate, disagree, and move on because it wasn’t in your face comments … until this book! COVID anti-vaxx and the “Insurrection” PROPAGANDA should have been left out and then she could have stayed relatable to Independents and Republicans. Sad to say she lost me after that…
