50 years of an iconic classic! This international bestseller and inspiration for a beloved movie is a heroic story of friendship and belonging. No one ever said life was easy. But Ponyboy is pretty sure that he's got things figured out. He knows that he can count on his brothers, Darry and Sodapop. And he knows that he can count on his friends true friends who would do anything for him, like Johnny and Two-Bit. But not on much else besides trouble with the Socs, a vicious gang of rich kids whose idea of a good time is beating up on greasers like Ponyboy. At least he knows what to expect until the night someone takes things too far. The Outsiders is a dramatic and enduring work of fiction that laid the groundwork for the YA genre. S. E. Hinton's classic story of a boy who finds himself on the outskirts of regular society remains as powerful today as it was the day it was first published. "The Outsiders transformed young-adult fiction from a genre mostly about prom queens, football players and high school crushes to one that portrayed a darker, truer world." The New York Times "Taut with tension, filled with drama." The Chicago Tribune"[A] classic coming-of-age book".

Great story

My dad suggested this book to me when I was in 7th grade. And I got it, I read it, I loved it. And little did I know that later that same year my English class was going to read the book and watch the movie.

Emotional and relatable

I read this in school in 7th grade, and it made me realise different perspectives and other people's problems. This book had me sobbing at the end and is just one of the most emotional and realistic books I've read, 5/5 recommend!

It's been a long time since I've read this book so I figured it was time to read it again! I forgot how much sadness was in this book but I still loved reading it!

Best book I’ve bought EVER

Wow, I mean, WOW! The outsiders is probably the best YA book I’ve ever read. I found it at Barnes and Noble when I was in 5th grade, looking in the YA section for a new book to read (Yes, I’m a bookworm). Everytime we walked to class my nose was stuck in the outsiders. I’m in 6th grade now and it has really changed my life. I’ve realized some people who you may think have it good, really have it hard. And the people who have it hard and look tough and mean aren’t always mean. It has built my friendships and my perspective of life. The poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” introduced me to Robert Frost, my (now) favorite poet. The line “Stay Gold, Ponyboy” made me realize many people’s innocence is gone so fats and how true that is. So, if you’re thinking about getting The Outsiders, do it!!
