Great book for kids.

The book "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie," written by Felicia Bond, is a great choice for children as it is engaging, supports cognitive growth, and shows friendship. There are many pros to this book, for example, it encourages critical thinking, like cause and effect choices, a predictable pattern that helps the young readers' memory, and has them more engaged, it also has problem-solving skills, and demonstrates positive friendship behaviors. This book is wonderful, as children who read it recognize patterns and start to predict what may come next by following a chain of events. They also learn about how one action may lead to another.  With the many pros, there are only a few negatives. The mouse in the book is always asking for more and more; this may unintentionally model "demanding" behavior in kids. Another negative is that the child's reading may focus only on the humor rather than the message. With that, though, this could also go with any other book a child reads.  Overall, the book does a great job showcasing early cognitive development while also introducing the importance of friendship. The interactions between the boy and the mouse provide an opportunity to discuss what it means to be a kind and supportive friend. I would recommend "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" by Felicia Bond for all caregivers, whether a parent, early childhood teacher, grandparent, or godparent, as it is an effective read-aloud book that encourages predictions and guides conversations about thinking skills and friendship behaviors. Despite a few drawbacks, this book is very beneficial as a resource for supporting child development.
