Hot perfect, but a decent machine at a very good p

The toaster works, which is a good start, and it is simple to use (I've seen some which are unaccountably complicated. For me, its best feature is that it accommodates a wide variety of bread sizes and types--I often like to toast longer slices (e.g., round sourdough, dense pumpernickel), and was surprised to find how few toasters allow much beyond the standard size. In practice, its toasting does not seem to be as regular and reliable as my last one, which died after about 30 years of service. I've been using the same general type of bread since I bought it (Pep Farm/Arnolds) and found it uneven. One time the edges were nearly charred while the center was barely tan), on another, the bread seemed to get a bit soggy near the middle, and on another, everything came out pretty good, by my standards--I tend to prefer a but darker and more done than average. The Elite seems to lean the opposite direction, but at the highest speed, it's pretty good. As advertised, it is cool to the touch that points you to your preferred, which is nice, but in my experience, not unusual. One deign point does irritate me particularly, however. The setting knob, like the toaster itself, is glossy black. So is the very small pointer. It is very hard to see, even n a brightly lit room on a sunny day. Some contrast would have helped.
