Weird sizing

My daughter mostly wears 6x so I purchased the medium size 7/8 in these pjs. I love the print and they are super soft and stretchy. However I have to return bc the sizing is off. The shorts fit more like a small and the top feels more true to a medium. The shorts also have a thick waistband with not a lot of give, so it seems like they are uncomfortable. The exact opposite of what you want in pjs!
