excellent for making sourdough, I've used the round one and so glad they came out with the oval version too, I used both of them side to side in the oven to make einkorn sourdough regular and whole wheat and comes out perfect every time, perfect crust yet soft inside

A wonderful addition to the Bread Oven catagory

LeCreuset never disappoints, I love this oval bread oven, I have a round one and when this shape became available, I did not hesitate. I have used other brand enameled cast iron or ceramic pots to bake bread, none come close to the LeCreuset in quality and consistency of the finished loaf. Putting the loaf on a shallower portion of the unit as opposed to into a deep pot is easier and when removing the top for the final portion of the bake more of the loaf is exposed so there is a more consistent crust.

Third times a charm

After a couple of tries with unexpected rises and odd-shaped results, the oven produced a beautiful loaf of bread with great spring and crumb. The 4-cup recipe works best for us and we use unsalted butter instead of oil. Every baker should have one of these ovens.
