Cuisinart ICE-150 First Impressions

Saw someone else's unit and had to have it. Got this as a gift after I requested from my family. I've been making ice cream for decades using an old-fashioned machine (with a motor) but it's always a hassle. Need to make sure I have enough ice, salt, time to set it up, fuss with the motor that barely can handle the load, lots of cleanup, etc. After that background the ICE-150 is like magic. Plug it in, pour in the mix, push a couple of buttons and in less than an hour you have great ice cream. The Cuisinart is even easy to clean. I only had to adjust the mix recipe for the size of the container (about 1/2 of my old freezer) and the results are the same great taste. An unexpected feature is a handy bracket on the back side to wrap the cord around when stored. The downsides? They are relatively minor. The Cuisinart is a little large, so you need room to store it. It seems pretty well made but I don't think super robust - Handle it with some care. With a spindle sticking up at the bottom of the pail it is a little difficult to get out every last bit of the finished product (I like ice cream and want every bit). Out of the box there was only a small 2-page instruction sheet which was sufficient to get me going but had nothing on care, warranty, etc. - I had to find a more complete manual online. Lastly, on my third use the unit starting squeaking. Some online discussions gave some hints to try to correct that, but it will be annoying if I don't find a fix.

Disappointing ice cream maker

Bought this as it has varied settings for gelato, ice cream, sorbet etc and you don't have to pre-freeze the bowl. Good digital panel that is easy to set the programs and times. BUT it has 2 complicated shape paddles that are a nightmare to get the mix off when you transfer it to the freezer - loads is wasted as you just cant get every bit off the strange shapes of the paddle and it takes so long it starts melting. Also the churning times are far longer than my previous Gaggia machine, at least twice as long. Very disappointing for the price.

Bought this machine to replace an old version that had given up after many years. Very easy to use, the fabulous ice cream is going down a treat in the extreme heat, if you have space on the work surface it's worth buying

Not nearly as easy as it should be

I followed all the directions to a T and all was going fine until I put in my finely chopped additions (not larger than a chocolate chip as instructed) 5 minutes from the end. Then I spent about an hour manually having to unblock the mixer and get it working again as it kept cutting out. I realised it was because the ice cream had frozen solid on the bottom and against the sides, but not in the middle meaning that the mixer was unable to actually mix the ice cream nor move at all weirdly. I did everything from adjust the coldness to unblocking the ice cream manually but what ended up happening was I had to let it partially melt and then manually mix the bits in myself which was absolutely exhausting! Very disappointing result given the price and such an instant issue. Lame! Also disappointing that the mixer and accessories were all plastic. Again, given the price I would have expected better materials used.
