Smells like mold/mildew

What is it with this product? It smells like mildew! I used it for a couple of years then I got a batch that smelled, then another. I quit using it but this year they gave it to me as a birthday gift (which I appreciate). I love the product otherwise but I can’t use something on my face that smells like mold or mildew.

I tried different brands for the same peeling component, but less expensive and it is a waste of money. I always come back and buy m-61 in the biggest box. I've been using it for probably 5 or more years. Once or twice a year you can catch it at 30+ percent discounted and that is my chance to afford it. I love how it makes my skin glow. And it helps for my retinol to be absorbed better the next day since dead skin cells are gone. Also moisturizers work the best afterwards. Recommended.
