Billy Summers by Stephen King

Stephen King's book Billy Summers is about a US-military-trained sniper who becomes an assassin-for-hire after leaving the service. Billy is hired for his most lucrative contract ever, which immediately makes him suspicious of his benefactor. After Billy ascertains that he will need his own method of extraction when the job is done, his benefactor reneges on the deal, causing Billy to go into hiding. Unfolding events from there take this story through turns Billy never anticipated. But these nasty guys never anticipated anything like Billy either. King is one of the few fiction writers I love. I grew up with his books. I've read old stuff, new stuff, and stuff in the middle, and I can tell you he has only gotten better through the years. Gone are pages and pages describing one scene or landscape. Gone is half a chapter long backstory. His prose is superb; this is how fiction is supposed to be written. And this is a subject that we wouldn't typically see from King. A former Marine sniper who takes one last job, which happens to be his biggest payday, but only if it fits his moral code? It's not a typical Stephen King novel. However, King proves his versatility again and again.

A Pretty Decent Book!
Billy Summers by Stephen King was a good book, but I thought that it went by really slowly in the beginning of the book. In the middle of the book is where I felt like it started to get more interesting and wasn't that boring because in the beginning of the book it was actually pretty boring. I felt like the ending was okay, it had me a little confused. I could have expected more from the ending because I actually really enjoy reading thriller, and horror books. I don't read many books by Stephen King, but for this to be my first one, I thought it was a pretty good book. Billy Summers is a thriller novel, our main person Billy Summers is a hired killer in this novel, he was never caught or never suspected throughout this book as I was reading it. In this book since Billy is a hired killer but he actually only killed the bad people. A quote that I really thought was good is ¨but you can't help how you feel. Feelings are like breathing. They come in and go out.¨(chapter 7, page 121). I really liked this quote because our feelings are actually just like breathing because if we were ever to get upset about anything that feeling will come in and then go out. There were a lot of other good quotes in this book, but I felt like this one has really stuck out to me. I would definitely recommend this book if you're into thriller, and horror books.

Crime caper
Been reading SK since the 70’s. No doubt he is phenomenal. I especially liked this story because it is a crime caper & no supernatural shenanigans & not 700+ pages. I hope he writes more of these.

Politics taking over talent
King’s Trump derangement syndrome has hijacked his artistic talents in various books now and it’s evolved from mildly annoying to predictably lame. I have read King for 20+ years and have many shelves lined completely with this author’s works. Sadly, I am throwing in the towel and will no longer purchase or read his works. I read fiction for entertainment, not political opinions. If I wanted to read someone’s politics, I’d search that section of the bookstore. You know it’s bad when you can start predicting within half a page when his anti-Trump statements are gonna get thrown in. Get over yourself King. You’ve either lost your mind over your hatred for someone who could give two hoots about you, or you’ve forgotten (or don’t care) that people who read your books might have differing political views (which is a great thing!) and bashing Trump supporters just makes you seem feeble.

Best of the best
Loved every second of this book, made me remember how much I enjoyed reading. The ending was sad and I loved the touch of romance put in, just the right amount. Maybe in another lifetime, Billy.

Amazing Stephen King read
I’ve read very few Stephen King books, but thus far this has to be one of my personal favorites. I was glued since the very beginning with such intriguing characters and story

Not his best
After three attempts I plowed through and found the last half of the book very good. Mr. Kings early novels are the best I have ever read, absolutely brilliant.
