Good for documents when recognized

This device is great for scanning documents if you're lucky enough to get it recognized by your machine. It is very trick to get it recognized by my PC and using the register repair download works sometimes, sometimes not. The color processing for photos oversaturates the colors and as others have noted cannot be disabled.

Very Disappointing

I purchased the imageFORMULA RS 40 Photo and Document Scanner thinking it would produce higher quality scans than a multi-function printer scanner. However, I was very disappointed. As I began scanning photos, this scanner totally ruined the color with its automatic color correction which after much effort and calling Canon Tech Support cannot be shut off. The only offering was scan the photos in and then move them to a photo editing software and correct the color. My photos had perfect color so why go through all that effort. If all you want to scan is black & white photos, it is fine but for color photos, look elsewhere. I returned this scanner and would not recommend it.

Instructions for basic procedure are NOT TOO clear. You need to write instructions for an eight grade level.

Works well for grey scale (black and white) photo's

The color correction is not very good and does not distorts human subjects at times. If there was a way of totally disabling the color correction and let the user use Photoshop for this task it would be great. If you are only doing gray scale (i.e. black and white) this can be worked around a bit. I am going to be using this scanner mainly for very old BW and old documents and this unit is well suited for this task.

piece of garbage

this scanner is bad. it is slow the colors are way off from the original and no combination of settings seems to fix it. i have used other bulk scanners and i have to say this is the worst. the only redeeming thing about it is that it scans things in the proper order to keep them organized but the software doesn't create subfolders even when prompted to.

Good Luck...

An expensive piece of machinery and time consuming venture in getting this to connect. New, high end computer will not read the USB connection from the scanner. Have spend hours going through the troubleshooting guides online and have tried every suggestion there is. One of the suggestions from Canon... try using a different computer. This is one is brand new dell -why on Earth would it not work on a new computer? I'm sure it's a great scanner, but cross your fingers it connects, because if it doesn't, it's a frustrating rabbit hole.
