Kristina thinks she can control the urge, the addiction, the monster trying to drag her down. Now with a baby to care for, she's determined to be the one deciding when and how much, the one calling the shots. But the monster is too strong, and before she knows it, Kristina is back in its grips. She needs the monster to keep going, to face the pressures of day-to-day life. She needs it to feel alive. Once again the monster takes over Kristina's life and she will do anything for it, including giving up the one person who gives her the unconditional love she craves- her baby. A vivid portrait of a victim to addiction, this sequel to Crank is the continuing story of Kristina and her descent back to hell. A heartbreakingly accurate depiction of addiction
I have given this outstanding book by Ellen Hopkins 5 stars, as she was not only able to show how addiction to meth affects those on the outside, but she also conveys the glorification and lustful mindset of the addict themselves. Her ability to show just how addiction progresses and destroys simultaneously is outstanding. This book gives you a very intimate view of the life of someone who searches for gratification in the very substance that hurts her and her relationships. I would recommend this book to someone who finds themselves surrounded by harmful temptations in order to show just how fast life can be stripped away with a simple combination of chemicals. For an author to have the ability to understand both ends of addiction and precisely convey them is a mastery level difficult to achieve by many. Ellen has utilized her gift to not only touch those going through situations like this but has also been able to tell this story in a very unique format.
