Sounds good when it’s on!
Bought 2 of these for Christmas, one for me and my dad. I actually took time to research this size speaker and this jbl sounded great for the price comparison to others and the name says it all “ Charge”!! 5! They market this product proclaiming that it will last 20 hours at 50% volume and you can connect your phone as well to have it charged if need be. Hence the name… (Charge 5). Well………. sorry folks! At 100% this speaker lasts 2-3 hours tops , I lowered the volume a bit to about 80% and same thing, it didn’t matter 100% or 80%. Not sure when your suppose to connect your phone to charge bit I’d make sure the speaker was plugged in. So what’s the point when you obviously plug your phone into the socket right next to the JBL 20hr speaker /charger. Does it sound good? Yes! Does it hold the charge they proclaim? No! Is it a great compact speaker with great looks? Yes! Should you just keep it plugged into AC when using it? YES But that’s not the point of a portable speaker right? I gave a 3 because of al the pro’s I mentioned and it sounds great. Does it hold a cbarge for 4-5 hours or 20 hrs. ? No!

Thanks for your feedback. It is possible that the battery of your JBL Charge 5 is losing its capacity. However, it is also possible that the battery is working correctly but depletes more quickly when the volume is very loud and/or the bass has been boosted. Try to charge the battery to 100% and then listen to music without any bass boosted, and at a very low volume. If the battery lasts close to the published up-to-playtime, the battery is working fine. However, if you get less than 90% of the published spec, this likely means that the battery is losing its capacity. For further assistance, please contact us.

Thank you for your feedback. Our JBL Charge 5 is designed to be waterproof (IP67 rated), meaning it can withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. However, while it can handle splashes and brief exposure to water, prolonged exposure to steam and high humidity might have some potential long-term effects. It's always best to minimize exposure to harsh environments to ensure its longevity. Also, our JBL Charge 5 has up to 20 hours of battery life. This may vary depending on volume and music content. If the speaker doesn't meet the advertised playtime hours even at low to mid-volume levels, there could be a problem with the battery of the unit. We recommend contacting our customer support.

Battery life is the worst
I bought this about 2-3 months ago. I use it daily. The sound is great. However the battery life is worse than my charge 4 by a long shot. I’m lucky to get 5-7 hours of ply time from it. Very disappointing.

Inadequate
Bought this to use as a car stereo in my otherwise music-free fleet vehicle at work, as well as for camping. I will say that the sound quality is good. Distortion free, full range from the high notes to the bass. And it can take a beating, as advertised. Didn't get a chance to put the water resistance to the test, but it stood up to a range of high and low temperatures, and heavy winds carrying dust, and even falling off the dashboard a couple times without faltering. However, that's where the legitimacy of its claims end. Even at full volume, I couldn't hear the music if I walked more than 80' from the truck (engine off, no competing noise). Similarly, camping in the middle of nowhere I had it sitting on the hood of my rig and it wasn't loud enough to make out from the perimeters of camp. And the battery life is abysmal. Far from the advertised "up to 20 hrs." I was lucky if I made it through an 8 hour workday before it quit on me. Never tried to charge my phone from it, because it couldn't even hold a charge itself. I should have listened to my coworkers, who said JBL's quality has gone downhill in recent years. Instead I went with the "known" name. Learned my lesson. Will not buy from JBL again.

We appreciate your feedback. Our JBL Charge 5 battery life may vary depending on volume and music content. If the speaker doesn't meet the advertised playtime hours even at low to mid-volume levels, there could be a problem with the battery of the unit. Also, without walls for sound waves to bounce off, your speakers will lose sound frequencies in an open space. Because you aren't enclosed in a room, audio may sound quiet, washed out, and you may miss some audio details.
