Smithsonian Wave Machine
Product details
Web ID: 9566720Made as cheap as the price. Don't waste your money
I knew I this was no substitute for a Hughes Wave Motion Machine (even though it seem B&N tried to ride off that company's coattails of success), but geez this thing SCREAMS "Chinese-made." The motor is intrusive with the buzzing noise and after about a week away on vacation, I came home to my WHITE $460 side table stained and an empty chamber on this thing. I was able to have a the table professionally cleaned thank God ($140), but this thing went right in the trash and I am going to buy the bespoke piece of artwork with customization done directly from the artist. Who knows maybe I got a bad one? Try your luck! Thankfully they aren't expensive.

Much nicer than expected!
I bought this after seeing the Hughes wave machine on the "In Treatment" show on hbo max. It is featured prominently in every episode and it looks super cool. Now you can buy that exact one, but it's $500. I saw this one from Smithsonian and I was afraid it would look really cheap, but I took a leap and bought it. The base is obviously black plastic but the reservoir actually looks nicer than you would expect from the picture on the box. I turn it around so you don't see the "Smithsonian" on the base. I display it in my office and I think this it looks good and not like a child's toy. You can't beat the price!

Great Gift!
I bought it for my 12 year old son and he loved it! It was relatively easy to set up and has great quality for the container, no leaks or cracks. It is a great way to learn about our oceans and is some what mesmerizing to look at. I would definitely recommend this product to everyone!
