Great Cozy Heater

This is a nice cozy heater for small spaces like sheds and garages. I wanted it positioned high so the kids wouldn't accidentally bump into it. Before powering it on, we positioned the heater in an area where the heater had good ventilation to heat up. We powered it on and waited for the heater to warm up. It was an exceptionally cold day, and the garage was even colder, so we didn't stay outside for long. However, we stayed just long enough to feel the heat coming from the heater. I will mention that this heater is quite loud… I'm not sure if that's typical, but it was definitely louder than expected. What I particularly liked was how easy it was to turn the heater on and off with the remote control, and how its cost is budget friendly. It has a lot of great features, like how the coil inside is well-protected, which reduces any fire risk and how it has a rugged-shell. Overall, it's a solid unit, and I believe that if you run it long enough, it will eventually warm up your entire area.

Great little machine for a smaller area that is pretty affor

The Newair NGH500GA00 Garage Heater is a great little machine that gets the job done. It's not going to be the end-all indoor garage heater, but if you aren't in sub 30 degree weather, don't have a massive space you need cooled, and are on a budget this machine would fit your needs perfectly. It does a great job warming up a small garage or enclosure, is portable and movable, and won't break the bank.

Disappointed

I was excited to get the unit but was certainly skeptical of some of the reviews posted here. One even states that it heated a garage from 40 to 78 in ten minutes. I have a fully insulated two car garage just under 500 sf. On a 50 degree day, I ran the unit for 1 hour and the temp in the garage went from 51 to 54 degrees. I either have a defective unit or the reviews being posted are less than accurate.

Not 30amps

I'm not sure why this is sold as a 30amp 4800watt heater. I bought this brand new unit and the maximum output I have been able to get on a 240v 30amp circuit is 10.4Amps and roughly 2400watts. It is advertised as double that wattage. This is with the thermostat set to 99 and fan on high. The circuit power measured 242volts so it's not an issue with the circuit. Very disappointing.

Works fine but the instructions can be improved

This is really more of a wall or ceiling mounted heater than a freestanding/portable heater. It needs a big 30 amp 240 volt outlet which the average garage probably does not have. I had a 30 amp circuit with 30 amp wiring but a 20 amp outlet used for a small TIG welder, so had to install a 30 amp outlet. Small point, but would be helpful: The mounting instructions should tell you to use the bracket to locate screw holes, drill and install the screws, and attach the bracket to the heater before attaching the bracket to the wall because it is difficult to attach the heater to the bracket once it is on the wall. Operation using the remote is a little complicated and difficult to remember. The operating instructions are on page 9 of a 12 page manual. They should be printed on a separate sheet that could be tacked to the wall until they are memorized -- or even better printed on the side of the heater. All the above notwithstanding, the heater works fine. It did not trip the breaker even running at the same time as a baseboard heater in the room above. The manual does not say what the amperage draw is, just that it should be plugged into a 30 amp outlet.
