well-made large serving bowl

Large serving bowl. Used it when we have eight or more for dinner. Is part of the Villeroy & Boch For Me collection, which is nice (except for the name). The color is a slightly creamy off white, which we like. Quality is very good. I got this bowl on sale, so the value for the price paid is very good. Happy with this purchase.

Wanted quality porcelain whiteware that wasn't bright white, that could be used for both everyday and entertaining. We purchased two Villeroy & Boch "For Me" 16 Pc. Service for 4 Dinnerware Sets. Have had them about a week. We like the lines, which are simple and clean, and the color, which is a slightly warm/creamy off-white. We like the porcelain; it is lighter weight than the stoneware we previously used, less bulky to store, fits better in the dishwasher, and works better in the microwave. The glaze is generally good / consistent - I think I've come across maybe one flaw in the 32 pieces we have. The only surprise was I put some plates in the oven (at a low temperature) to warm them. They got a LOT hotter than our stoneware normally does; but they did not seem to stay warm as long as the stoneware. However, I think that is true of porcelain in general - not specific to this dinnerware. When I ordered, I was a little nervous because the bowls are not round, they are oval; but once we got them, my husband and I both liked them. They fit nicely in your hand and have an certain elegance to them. In the interest of helping others considering this collection: the bowls are a good size for say a medium-sized portion of soup, stew, or beans and rice. We don't eat cereal, but I would think they are a good size for it. They are a bit large for yogurt and fruit, or ice cream, but we have been using them for such. The coffee mugs are slightly smaller than most, but we are okay with that. The only negatives for us are: the bowls we received are not all exactly the same shape, which makes them a little tricky to stack; and I do not like the name of the collection ("For Me"). That said, I love seeing "Villeroy & Boch - 1748 - Premium Porcelain - Made in Germany" on the bottom of the bowls and cups when I put them in the dishwasher!! We were fortunate to buy during a sale, plus buying in sets reduced the overall price. Overall, we are happy with this item, consider it a good value, and would recommend it to others who share our selection criteria.
