Not strong enough for winter weather
We purchased this gazebo (20 x 12) to go over our hot tub on our patio. The idea was to keep leaves and other debris from our trees off the hot tub cover while at the same time providing some shade and protection from rain. It took my wife and I three weeks to fully assemble the gazebo due to weather and illness. The instructions were Ok. All the parts were included and with a couple of minor exceptions in excellent shape. One very impacting issue is that the measurements shown on the website show the height of the gazebo that goes next to the house as being 8 feet tall. I'm assuming that height is for the smaller gazebos. The actual height of our gazebo is 98 1/2 inches. This put the gazebo right up to the bottom of the overhang of our roof. Any higher and we would have needed to return the gazebo. Once fully installed, we were pleased with the gazebo, although it did leak in a few places. The primary reason for only giving the gazebo 3 stars and I struggled to even give it 3 stars, was that the long span of the 20 foot gazebo has only the one crossbar supporting the roof. About a week and a half after installing the gazebo we had an ice storm. The storm started out with about 2 inches of fluffy snow with a little bit of sleet mixed in. At that point the crossbar began to sag badly. It was obvious that the roof was going to collapse under the impending ice that we were expecting. We were very worried that if the roof collapsed it would damage our hot tub, so we shored up the roof with 2x4s to keep the structure up. The crossbeam bent where the 2x4 supports were placed. Once we got the ice off the roof, we removed the crossbeam and straightened it out and replaced it. The roof looks almost as good as new, but we're going to reinforce the structure with a wooden crossbeam to prevent similar issues in the future. The design of the gazebo might be fine for the smaller gazebos, but for the larger ones like we purchased the structure needs significantly better support to handle snow and ice. If you live in an area with a warm climate you might be Ok with this gazebo, although I doubt the polycarbonate panels will hold up to large hail.
