Bad Service from Macys representative

I ordered large and it was way too big. It must have been an extra large. When I tried to return it to the Macys store at Ridgedale, they told me it was a final sale item. I understood that but when a clothing item doesn't fit as marked, was i just supposed to throw it away? Bad service from Macys!!!
