Hendrix never misses, and this one is no exception

I’m going to be upfront, I absolutely LOVE Hendrix’s writing style and character development so I knew I was going to love this book from the start. Two things that really stood out to me in this book were: 1) the character’s mindset is so much like their age - when Abby was 10 her inner monologue is exactly like a 10 year old girls would sound like and you can tell how her inner thought grow with her. And 2) the real take on long lasting friendship - Abby and Gretchen don’t just stay high school level BFFs, their relationship had the natural dips and peaks like a real long term friendship has. But honestly, Hendrix never misses, and this one is no exception.

Campy!

The Exorcist meets the 80s in this nostalgic, fun, and creepy read from Grady Hendrix! Set against the backdrop of 1980s high school life—complete with mixtapes, mall hangouts, and tight-knit friendships—this story blends dark comedy and horror with a heavy dose of camp. Abby and Gretchen are inseparable best friends, but after a bizarre night out, Gretchen begins to act... different. What starts as teenage rebellion quickly spirals into something darker, as Abby becomes convinced that her best friend is possessed. It’s up to her to save Gretchen, even if it means going up against demonic forces, clueless adults, and her own doubts. The book masterfully balances moments of genuine terror with laugh-out-loud 80s references, making it an unforgettable and thrilling ride. One of my favorite reads from Hendrix, and a must for fans of horror with a campy twist!

Like Reading A Movie (The Book's Better)

It's definitely the book equivalent of a cheesy 80s horror movie, you connect with the main characters really well. I will say, anyone wanting to watch the movie version will be disappointed. Definitely more for YA!

Best Fiends Forever

Abby’s best friend Gretchen started to change. Weird things started happening around school and Abby seems to be losing her friendship with Gretchen because of it. Abby believed something terrible happened to her friend and wasn’t sure what is going on could it just be normal teenage angst or could her friend be possessed by an evil entity I liked the book. However, I think the book is more for YA. I found it to be a tad bit boring and the death of MAX was really unnecessary.

The perfect trip back to the 80's- with a twist!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I thought it was hilarious how a grown man could perfectly channel the 80's teen girl and capture it perfectly in this book. Oh the nostalgia! If you're looking for a trip down memory lane and love stories with an eerie storyline, then you will LOVE this book. The funny thing is, I had a Volkswagen Rabbit as a teen girl just like the one in this book! So many parallels that just made me love the book that much more! Highly recommend!
