Smaller than mattress and bed frame

The king size foundation seems sturdy. My only issue is the two foundation pieces are several inches smaller than the mattress and bed frame which causes gaps. This may affect the longevity of the mattress since it hangs over the foundation slightly.

So far so good, but a bit firmer than expected.

I know that it will take some time for a new mattress to loosen up, but this one is firmer than what tried in the store even after a month of use.
