One man's search for the truth about one of the most intriguing urban legends ever-the modern bogeyman, Slender Man-leads him down a dark, dangerous path in this creepy supernatural fantasy that will make you question where the line between dark myth and terrifying reality begins. Lauren Bailey has disappeared. As friends at her exclusive school speculate on what happened and the police search for answers, Matt Barker dreams of trees and a black sky and something drawing closer. Through fragments of journals, news stories, and online conversations, a figure begins to emerge-a tall, slender figure-and all divisions between fiction and delusion, between nightmare and reality, begin to fall. Chilling, eerie, and addictively readable, Slender Man is a unique spine-tingling story and a brilliant and frightening look at one of the most fascinating-and diabolical-mythical figures in modern times.

It's an OK Horror Book

Spooky Scenes are Great but I wanted more! Without getting into spoilers, this book did a fairly decent job of characterization, setting/mood, and creep factor. I really, really wish there were more eerie scenes and additionally, more signs of the supernatural / horror elements throughout over what we got with this. The approach visually was unique as well, with the inclusion of internet posts, faux-audio recordings, diary entries and even text messages, but it didn't do much in terms of the overall story, the pace, or helped garner more scares in the end. It was a decent outing nonetheless, where it definitely suits a spooky setting in certain scenes. Mostly, the pacing just left me wanting more scares earlier. It felt like it took almost until the end of the book to begin to feel like it's a horror novel, as the tone really shifted from a "Who Done It?" or "Investigative" atmosphere to more of a dreadful feel. It could've been a short story or a novella in my opinion, because of that pacing. It's a real slow-burn type of horror, but when the scares finally do hit, they're good enough to keep you reading. 3/5 - Decent, nothing memorable, won't read it again or recommend it unless you're looking for a unique approach or want a fairly good romp in the teen horror side of things.
