Bed and Headboards

Are you looking to update your bedroom décor? Get the room of your dreams with beds and headboards, available at Macy’s. Are you wondering what the difference is between headboards and beds? Headboards are decorative pieces that are attached to bed frames. Beds are comprehensive pieces of furniture that include a headboard, frame and footboard. Now that we have that sorted, we’re giving you a step-by-step guide to help you select the perfect bed or headboard for your bedroom.

How Do You Find The Right Bed & Headboard?

Step One - Select A Bed Size:

Twin. A twin-size bed is meant to accommodate a 39" x 75" mattress, which is typically used for children or small spaces.

Full. If you’re looking for a bit more wiggle room, we recommend a full-size bed that holds a 54" x 75" mattress. It’s just enough room for you and a guest.

Queen. To accommodate two people more comfortably, you’ll want to consider queen beds that fit a 60" x 80" mattress.

King. If you are working with more space, then definitely check out king beds designed for 76" x 80" mattresses. These beds will give added comfort and more breathing room for couples.

California King. If you are living in the lap of luxury and have an enormous bedroom, treat yourself to a California king bed that holds a 72" x 84" mattress.

Step Two – Choose A Bed Type:

Platform Beds. Do you want to save some money on your mattress purchase? Say, “goodbye” to box springs and “hello” to a platform bed. You just have to place your mattress on top of the slats and you’re good to go. Be aware that these beds are a bit lower to the floor.

Storage Beds. Are you living in a small space or lacking closets? We recommend getting a storage bed that has compartments underneath to hold extra bedding, clothes or shoes.

Bunk Beds. Do you have two kids sharing a room? Don’t give up precious floor space with two twin beds. Create more space with stacked bunk beds.

Daybeds. Do you have a room that’s doing double duty? If you’re living in a studio or have an office/guest bedroom, you might want to consider getting a daybed. It’s a sofa and bed all-in-one, so you don’t need to hassle with a pull-out sofa.

Step Three – Pick A Material:

Upholstered. If you want to lend an elegant feel to your décor, we recommend upholstered beds or headboards. You might want to consider avoiding lighter colors that might get dirty quickly, especially if you have kids or pets joining you in bed.

Wood. If you want your bedroom to evoke a rustic charm, then a wooden bed or headboard is always a prime choice. For a more traditional feel, consider a rich-colored wood, like cherry. If you want to sway in a more modern direction, consider pine or another light-colored wood.

Metal. Is your style industrial chic? Lend a contemporary appeal to your bedroom with metal beds or headboards. If you want to infuse a bit of warmth to this style, we suggest finding a bed or headboard that blends wood and metal.
