From the bestselling author of Kafka on the Shore: A magnificent coming-of-age story steeped in nostalgia, "a masterly novel" (The New York Times Book Review) blending the music, the mood, and the ethos that were the sixties with a young man's hopeless and heroic first love. Toru, a serious young college student in Tokyo, is devoted to Naoko, a beautiful and introspective young woman, but their mutual passion is marked by the tragic death of their best friend years before. As Naoko retreats further into her own world, Toru finds himself drawn to a fiercely independent and sexually liberated young woman. Stunning and elegiac, Norwegian Wood first propelled Haruki Murakami into the forefront of the literary scene.

Beautiful and Poignant

I would recommend Norwegian Wood for those who read as part of their grief process. There is a motif of suicide; for those who have a sensitivity in that area, use your best judgement of if this title is best for you right now. Brings up questions of what it means to love and to allow oneself to be loved. Steeped heavily in the gravity and growing pains of youth.

Don’t read you you get bored fast!!!

If you want an action packed book, this isn’t for you. All it is is the main character talking to girls, drinking, and doing the devil’s tango. It drags and I was happy to have it be over.
