Great style, poor execution

I really wanted to love these earrings, but the quality is subpar. The earring backs are too big for the post and slide right off. The metal is supposed to be sterling, but it’s a weird dark gray material with a strange texture to it. I thought perhaps they arrived tarnished, and wiped them down with a sterling cloth, but they still look pretty bad.
