Nothing is what it seems

I read the Once Upon a Broken Heart series by her a few years back, and loved the first two books, but the third one angered me and I hesitated to read this series by her. But I finally decided to give it a shot. Like her other series, I loved this story. The romance is nice, but it's the chaos and magic I enjoy the most. It's such a detailed world that you only get pieces of at a time. Definitely going to check out the second book at some point.

This was an amazing book!!

I borrowed this book from a friend and not only had a blast reading it and exploring the games with Scarlett, but also loved the way Stephanie emphasized the characters and made me want to keep turning the page. I would highly recommended this book to anyone above the ages of 12.

Amazing!!!

I definitely think if you're on the fence about reading this book, you should read it. The magic of the story and setting paints a beautiful, enchanting picture in your brain. Like Scarlett, I became completely immersed in the world of Caraval. At one point in the book, you honestly don't know what's real and what isn't anymore. 🎪

Loved this book!

Overall I loved reading this book! It is about a girl named Scarlett Dragna. She is a young woman who lives with her sister Tella and their father though their father is very cruel. They live on a small island. Their father always dreamed of participating in Carnival. This is a once a year performance where the audience can become part of the show. Scarlett dreams of attending the magical Caraval performance but never knew what was about to happen if she did. She finally got invited by the enigmatic legend who invited her because for years she has been writing a letter wanting to go. The elusive Legend is the one who runs Carval. Scarlett and her sister then go to Carval with help from a mysterious sailor. When they get there her sister who is Tella gets kidnaped. This was part of the game and Scarlett realizes that this year's Carval revolves around Tella. Scarlett is then forced to go through a journey to find her sister, Tella. She is involved with magic over these five days. There is much pressure for Scarlet as she does not want to lose her sister forever because if she does not find Tella after the 5 days of Carval then Tella disappears forever never to be found again. Scarlett definitely does not want this to happen and is willing to try her best in making sure her sister is found in those five days she has to find her. The game puts her through many different challenges to try and find her sister, Tella and to win the game. Carval is the perfect title for this book. Mostly because it is the overall event in the story it is not something that would give away the book and make people not want to read it but instead it makes you wonder about why this book is even called Carval. The title that they gave is perfect for this book. It overall tells not too much about the story but just what the actual book is about. I think that there are many reasons why you should read this book. Overall while I was reading it I was very engaged in it because of how interesting it was and wanted to know more about it as I read. I definitely recommend this book and think that you should definitely read it. I loved this book and would definitely read it again.

Jaw-dropping Fantasy Book

Caraval by Stephanie Garber is an excellent book filled with magical twists every page you turn over. I would definitely recommend this book to all the readers who love things like creativity and also imagination. There are many small but very important details that add to the overall story but make it a whole lot more interesting. Even though fantasy is not particularly my favorite genre to read, this book is the type of book that makes me want to read more fantasy books just like it. I really liked and enjoyed how there are so many different elaborate stories of characters that tied into how the story ended. The only thing I disliked about this book was that sometimes there were parts that were very confusing because it was explaining a little bit too much at one time. My favorite part of the book was when Scarlett died for a day and had a dream that explained everything and it was very elaborate. That part of the book was extremely well written because it made it seem like everything was coming together almost like putting in the last piece of a puzzle. My favorite character in the book was Donatella Dragna because of her reckless personality. Though her personality was originally deceiving, she actually turned out to be very smart and strategic to my surprise. I love how this book has so many interesting and jaw-dropping plot twists. All of the plot twists really kept me focused and captivated my attention on the book and what was to come. There was a common theme throughout the entire book. This theme was to trust your gut but also take risks. At the end of the book Scarlett trusted her gut and took a big risk. Although she thought everything was going wrong she ended up saving her sister's life because of her actions. This shows that trusting your instincts and taking risks can benefit you and those around you. Overall Caraval is a great book to read and I would recommend it to people twelve years of age and older. The story of this book is unmatched and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series. This series includes Caraval, Legendary, and Finale. After reading this series I will go on to the next series which is also connected to this series. This series includes Once upon a broken heart, The ballad of never after, and A curse for true love.

Cute & Whimsical

** 4.5 Stars** I thought this was super cute & whimsical! I listened to the audiobook (kudos to you Rebecca Soler) and had a good time. I'm normally super critical but this one was just a mood / vibe read for me, something to put on when I was doing my skincare or driving. If I really wanted to I could probably find something to critique this a little harder, but honestly I just enjoyed going along for the ride. I loved the relationship between Scarlett and Tella, the budding romance between Scarlett and Julian, and the whole Caraval adventure experience. Maybe it's because I watched too many tiktok edits with Melanie Martinez's "Carousel" playing in the background, but I wish we had just a little more whimsy in the world building and descriptions of the locations around Caraval. Lean a little more into the dark carnival vibes we've got goin on. All in all, it was cute, full of whimsy, and I enjoyed it. What more can you ask for?
