Great addition to an excellent series

Not only are Louise Penny novels excellent murder mysteries, they are stories about family, parenting, love, sorrow, heartbreak, and redemption. After a few books these fully developed characters feel like family and the reader is invested in their stories, their struggles, and their triumphs. This can easily be read as a stand alone but I strongly urge you to start with the first book, "Still Life," and read the series in order to gain the full appreciation of the intertwined relationships between the characters. Highly recommended

Excellent setting

Armand and Reine-Marie were in Paris for the birth of their grandchild. A far cry from his job as The Head of Homicide for the Surete du Quebec. When his godfather Stephen is run down in cold blood he cannot help but be in the thick of the investigation. There is a lack of respect from the Paris police for who they believe are just provincial colleges from Quebec. There is a lack of urgency even when a body is found in Stephen’s apartment. Armand will not realise until to late how this investigation will involve his close family. How out of terror goodness may rise. You really see a part of Paris not normally on the usual tourist routes but that comes with a much more interesting story. A strong story in this wonderful series following Armand and his family and friends. You can start with this book and fall in love with the characters and find yourself being swept up into the world of Three Pines. I was given an arc of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
