For me, not forgettable
First impression: I thought this was a YA book. I've read a few Frankenstein retellings before but they were all YA so I think that's where it stems from. This is definitely not YA, but it is a Romance retelling. I really like Angelika, she definitely fits the bill of a woman from that era. But I love how she just takes it as her own. She's also a hopeless romantic, and I love her view about her self worth. Not gonna lie though, necromancy is very very present here and I was not sure how to take it as romance. But eventually, I settled on knowing that this is fiction, and we have to take this as a grain of salt. I do know that the book is more about being true to yourself, loving so deeply, and accepting the person who you truly love. There is also a mystery, and sci-fi horror aspects to the story as well which results to great story telling and entertainment. One thing is for sure, for me, this is one of those books that is not forgettable at all.

Very Original
I can’t say I’ve read anything quite like it - part romance, part mad science, part drama. It dragged a bit at the beginning but only gets more interesting the longer you read

Highly Recommend for Quirky Gothic Romance Fans
Sally Thorne became an auto-buy author for me the minute I finished her first book, The Hating Game. I have loved every one of Sally's books and didn't think it was possible to love her more, but I think Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match may well be my new favorite Thorne book. It has all the signature things I've come to love in Sally's books: steamy chemistry, quirky, loveable characters, and hilarious and fantastic dialogue. Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match is a love letter to Mary Shelley and I absolutely loved everything about this Frankenstein fan fic. I admit this one had a bit of a slow start for me, but about a third of the way in, it really picked up, and then I could not put it down. SLIGHT spoilers ahead: I have to admit I was absolutely NOT expecting a love triangle but I absolutely loved the way Sally pulled it off. It felt fresh and I truly loved both love interests for such a large portion of the book. I adored how plausible Sally made everything in the book. As ever, the characters were all nuanced and interesting. Angelika's growth and character arc were such a joy to experience. I loved her sibling relationship with Victor and evolution for Will.

Kind of weird one
Angelika and Victor Frankenstein have a unique sibling interest in ground breaking research. Victor is driven to outsmart his nemesis but Angelika has other intentions. Having exhausted almost all of her romantic prospects she decides to create her own dream husband. Reanimating someone can't be harder than finding a living match, could it? But when her creation comes to life he isn't immediately head over heels for Angelika but more determined to regain his memory of who he used to be. The Frankensteins have successfully kept their experiments a secret but with one of them now actively roaming around could the siblings' genius finally prove to be a danger? Ok...this was a weird one. If you can set aside that Will is/was very much dead you can somewhat enjoy the romance of this story but I had such a hard time getting past that. I mean, the man is sewn together concoction of bodies that she supposedly is attracted to? (A sentence I never thought I'd write.) As you can imagine, it's hard to relate. Though for Spooky Season, you almost make exceptions to the crazy fiction of it all but outside of that this is a crazy (yet creative) one.

A fun new twist to Frankenstein story
Mary Shelley’s, “Frankenstein” story, but with a twist. This story followed Victor Frankenstein and his sister, Angelika. Both siblings worked together on experiments of reanimating bodies back to life! As with the original Frankenstein story, this story followed some parts of it, but with Angelika at the helm of the story it added a new twist to this haunting story. This book may have been set in the 1800’s, but it was fun, humorous, romantic, passionate, and very much in line with the creepy, spooky vibes that are associated with, “Frankenstein”. Angelika Frankenstein was a unique character that I immediately liked. Angelika wasn’t like other women her age, instead of being married as was expected of her during her time period, instead she helped her brother, Victor on his experiments, and in doing so sought out to create the perfect man for herself. I know some of us have joked around that we wish we could create our perfect dream guy, but in this story Angelika literally did the impossible, and made herself the man she had always wanted. Suddenly, one night after previous failed attempts, Angelika’s dream came true, she created her man, and by the looks of it, he seemed perfect. Will, the name she brought back to life was initially confused with his surroundings, why he was back to life, but most importantly had no recollection of his life before. All Will wanted to know was, “what was going on?” With Angelika by Will’s side, she tried to help him as best as possible. Going into this book, I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect aside from the whole Frankenstein storyline, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good the story was. Angelika was sassy and a women ahead of her time by working alongside Victor. Sure her motive on helping Victor suited to her own selfish want of the perfect man, but she was still intelligent and detail oriented while assisting Victor. I initially wasn’t sure if I was going to like this story, but thankfully I did, and I really enjoyed the storyline being made a historical romantic comedy since I feel like that’s a story I haven’t read before. Sure I’ve read some historical romance, but this kind was unique in its own spooky, creepy way. Another thing I wasn’t expecting was the spice. I mean, just reading the scenes between Angelika and Will in the beginning, it was clear that Angelika was head over heels for Will. While Will was adamant on trying to regain his memory in order to return to his own life, there was still that building tension between him and Angelika that was deliciously good. For someone like Will to claim he didn’t see Angelika in a romantic light, the man couldn’t help getting jealous when seeing Angelika talking to Commander Keatings, or even ADMITTING HE THOUGHT OF HER AT NIGHT WHILE IN BED…. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN! OMG! Yeah suffice to say, I loved the tension and passion that happened between Angelika and Will. I also enjoyed the other characters like Lizzie who added a flair of fun amongst the Frankenstein siblings. As Victor’s fiancée, Lizzie was the perfect counterpart to Victor and those two together also exuded passion, just ask Angelika she could hear them going at it all night while trying to sleep haha. Lizzie was also a great friend to Angelika and tried to show her that life had more to offer her than what she thought. While Lizzie was all fun and dramatic, she didn’t sugarcoat things for Angelika’s benefit, she wanted the best for Angelika, and didn’t want to see her get hurt with Will. The chemistry between Angelika and Will was passionate, sweet, and romantic. From the tension, the moments of jealousy, competing with another suitor, and romance blooming in the air, Angelika and Will were anything but bland in their romance. I loved the underlining sweetness that Will had towards Angelika, although he seemed to possess strength beyond what was normal, he was gentle and thoughtful whenever it came to Angelika. Even those few spicy scenes had that signature sweetness that was all Will. In addition, once Will and Angelika spent more and more time together, I loved seeing Will’s playful and teasing side come out. Will was a refined gentleman so to see him act playful and give into his desires with Angelika was like a breathe of fresh air, and he was able to experience his love for Angelika truly. The romance in this book was a wonderful combination of sweet and passionate. This was such a fun, enjoyable, romantic, perfect book to read for spooky season or if you’re in the mood for something a tiny bit haunting then why not? This story was written in a way that I wasn’t expecting, and I was surprised by how much I throughly enjoyed it. Angelika was vivacious and sassy, yet learned some lessons on how to better herself and being a helping hand to other around her. Will was a sweetheart and despite his initial confusion on who he truly was, he found himself falling in love with Angelika, a true home for himself, and a very heartwarming ending alongside Angelika. I would definitely recommend reading this whether it’s October or not because it has the right amount of mystery that is recognizable with the story of Frankenstein, but with this new twist it was so much fun to read.

Quirky, and Entertaining.
I like Sally Thorne. I like her quirky women. I like her stoic heroes. In this one, Angelika is the sister of Victor Frankenstein, and is equally scientific, equally brilliant and wants to find (or create) the love of her life. So when she finds a cadaver in the morgue that strikes her fancy, she resurrects him and hopes that he feels the same. What happens next is a search for her guy's true identity, while his kind, caring nature begins to rub off on the Frankenstein's wealthy, privileged nature. It's funny and quirky, incredibly strange and somewhat entertaining. If you like Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (and I do, very much) then you'll like this. I'll round down to 3 stars even though I'd give it a 3.5. There was a part at the end that went wildly off course for me, but otherwise it was a fun read for the fall season.
